Why Eat Meat
There are a lot of health concerns and dietary restrictions that prohibit eating certain foods, but you can still develop a well-balanced meal plan around your health problems. If you do not eat any meat, how are you going to get the Vitamin B12 your body has to have? You may go to the doctor and get a shot if you want, but one way or another you have to get Vitamin B12.
Isn't all meat safe to eat? I am not necessarily saying that - some meats are safer or cleaner to eat. What is the difference between a meat that is safe or cleaner to eat and one that isn't? You can differentiate between a clean and unclean animal by what they eat and the length of their digestive tract. You will find an animal that has a longer digestive tract allows the animal to completely process and eliminate any toxins in its system.
According to the information I found, a carnivore's intestines are about five to six times the length of its body. An herbivore's intestinal tract is about twenty-seven times the length of its body. Carnivores are basically flesh eaters and herbivores eat mainly vegetation.
Animals that are considered cleaner to eat have cloven hooves (split into two parts) and they must chew the cud, or ruminate. A ruminates stomach has four chambers. Each chamber contains billions of bacteria and other microorganisms. All the chambers are used to break down and liquefy eaten food into a form that can be completely digested by digestive enzymes. Digestive enzymes break down plant protein and fat, but they also kill and absorb the bacteria and microorganisms. When an animal chews the cud, it is belching previously swallowed roughage from the first stomach to be chewed up again but at a much slower, more through pace. The metabolic process of the chewing the cud and ruminating is, basically, what makes the meat cleaner for eating. As far as I know the plant-eating animals, herbivores, are cattle, sheep, buffalo, deer, goat, and antelope.
When preparing meat, you should always wash it well trying to get out as much blood and anything else that might be on it. I know most people leave the fat on because they feel it taste better, but before eating you should trim off all the fat. The best ways to cook the meat is to roast, broil, or grill it. Cook the meat until the pink is about gone. Meat and mushrooms are the only sources I know of to get Vitamin B12. All our body cells need Vitamin B12 daily.
You may occasionally see clean fish eat live food, but their diet consists mainly of plants and algae. Scales and fins must be visible. Some of the edible fish are bass, cod, flounder, haddock, halibut, herring, mackerel, orange roughy, perch, sole, salmon, red snapper, trout, and tuna. There may be more but that is all I can find.
Fish is one of the most perishable of all foods. You should not eat raw fish.
Some of the edible fowl, as far as I know, are chicken, turkey, duck, quail, and Cornish hen. You can eat the skin on edible fowl, but it just adds more calories than you usually need. Cook poultry well. You may want to cut dark spots off the meat because that is usually where blood has bled into the meat. Wash hands and utensils after handling any raw meats.
